Meeting the family

The journey began at 1.25 AM when I met the other students in Ljubljana, behind the school. I was a little tired but I was very excited. When the group was complete we left for Venice airport. The teachers drove us to the airport with a van and a car. Our flight was at 7 AM and it only lasted for about an hour. I was very tired at that point because haven’t slept for a whole day.

We met our hosting families at some hotel in Aversa. It was very awkward it the beginning because no one really knew how to react and what to talk about. The Diana family, that is hosting me is very friendly so first thing we did was grab some breakfast and got to know eachother.

The first thing that was very different from Slovenia is the traffic and the cars. In this part of Italy they drive very small cars because they have a problem with parking space. Also they don’t have as much traffic lights as we do and they are used to honking all the time. They honk to warn other drivers about them because their streets are close together and everybody is in the rush. When we got home I unpacked then we watched a movie and rested for a while. In Italy the lunches are pretty different from ours. First dish is usually pasta. We had lasagna that day. After that they eat the main dish then salad and then dessert.

In the afternoon we went for a walk around Aversa where we met with other students. My host Antonio has a twin brother who is hosting a student from a different country so at 5 PM we had to go back to he hotel and pick up a student from Germany. Later in the evening me went out to get some food, we decided to eat burgers. After dinner Antonio wanted to show me where they usually hang out. We came home at midnight and at that point I’ve been up for 40 hours so I fell asleep immediately. The first day was very awkward but I enjoyed it.
