Welding

On Sunday, we went from Sonderborg to Tondor in a modern Mercedes van. This is where the second half of the fortnight’s education begins.

The very next day, we started welding with MIG and TIG. First, we had a little introduction to welding equipment and then we started practicing on waste material.

MIG is a method of welding with a metal electrode and weld metal. The electrode is a wire that is wound on a reel and mechanically fed into the burner and also the welding gas is supplied, which can be pure argon, a mixture of argon and oxygen, or a mixture of argon and CO2 gas. The MIG process is used for welding non-ferrous metals and alloys, as well as welding structures of highly alloyed steels.

TIG welding is a non-wearing tungsten electrode welding method. Normally, noble gases such as argon are used in TIG welding. The filler material is usually of the same composition as the material being welded. The TIG process is usually used for welding thin stainless steel and aluminum and copper alloys.
