A spicy day

The first day of school started normally with minor problems of the harsh Finnish wind. When we finally arrived the school was too big to navigate, there is many different buildings with similar names and numbers. We ended up in a hallway filled with a student we didn’t yet know, lost our teachers called for help. We ended up waiting outside for our student teacher to come to get us. When she finally arrived she led us to a completely different building. We were introduced to our teachers there and later on, the students showed us all the different programs in the building. There were many programs like stage prop making, tapestry, jewelry making, and of course the textile  department which was like a whole nother world.

The teachers explained to us how they have practice 4 times a week and everything technical on Fridays. Soon enough the clock turned to 12 and it was time for lunch. I have never seen as big of a dining hall as it was. We took our plates and were surprised about the food. There were whole boiled potatoes, a salad bar, and these funny-looking fried balls that later turned out to be fish, there was also a white sauce that tasted somewhat like onions. After lunch, we had a short presentation on the program and at their schools. Our tired faces turned into smiles when the teacher told us we could leave early.

We finally got to our apartment more tired than ever, we quickly changed into comfortable clothes and slipped straight into bed. Later on, hunger struck and me and Melanija went to the market right next to our hostel. We bought Asian-style noodles that didn’t look very spicy. When we opened the packet there were two little bags filled with spices, we taught about adding both but I warned Melanija about the spice that hits over time. We added one, and each took a bite and looked at the other with fear as the heat hit. A tear formed in my eye. The day finally came to an end. We never taught we it never would.
