Lakes

Finland is famous for its many lakes. There are more than 188,000 lakes in Finland. This extensive network of lakes offers a variety of activities such as fishing, swimming, boating and walking. They are often surrounded by forests and other natural beauty that attracts many visitors. In winter, the lakes become a real winter fairy tale. They offer various activities such as skating, skiing and other sports. Lakes are also a very important ecosystem, as many animals live in them. Typical fish found in almost all lakes are catfish, pike and perch. There is also a lot of history hidden behind the lakes, which is very important for the country. The Finns make very good use of all things, including lakes, because they serve as the majority of their drinking water. All this water is also used to generate hydroelectric energy. During this time, glamping houses by the water and camping are very popular during summer days. The driving sports of sailing and rowing also developed. Many Finnish lakes are the result of the last ice age, which shaped the surface. Of course, without stories and myths, each lake is associated with local legends.
