Same World Different People

If we want to compare different countries to each other, we can always find some information in books and on the internet. While we can find a lot of useful information this way, the best way to see the difference between the two countries is to visit them and see it all with your own eyes.

My trip on Finland has just begun, but I already notice a lot of differences between Slovenia and this country. One of the most visible differences is the traffic; here people are much more patient while driving. I think it’s funny, because sometimes they stop in front of the pedestrian crossing, even though you are actually kind of far from it. It’s interesting how people stick to the rules while walking the streets. They stop at every red light every single time, which is interesting to me, because in Slovenia, if there is no car on the road, people just go across even if there is red light.

Another big difference is the character of the people living here. They are much more shy than we are. We met one guy that we asked for directions and he just smiled and didn’t know how to answer. I thing he understood us, but he just didn’t want to talk. There are also a few people in the school who really don’t want to talk to us, but some of the students are really kind and not so shy, which is pretty nice.

The teacher presented to us Finnish nightmares, which is a comic introducing the daily life of the socially awkward Matt, which is more or less how Finns see themselves. We’ve seen this even on the walls of the airport and they are hilarious.

In my opinion, Finland is a very beautiful country and people are extremely friendly, just maybe a little too shy. I really like it here and I am very happy that I got the opportunity to get to know this culture.
