Wanna be queens

Olaaa!

On the 12.5 we went to visit Casa de Carneval. This is a museum in Santa Cruz de Tenerife were you can see some of the costumes from the yearly carnivals. There are three costumes that stood out to me. They were meant to be queens 2020, but weren’t special enough.

The first one Maria Jose Chinea Cebrera, the sky is beginning to turn the colour of amethyst. The jagged amber clouds tell the start of a new day. The night, cold and uncertain what is to come. She said ” I still hear the thundering of a rain drops hitting the ground in a melody, on memories that never get forgotten and rarely comes. Where there is no sun light I come and bring happiness. I bring luck.”

The second one Laura Garcia Repo, This fantasy is mainly inspired by a dancer walking through the night in Copacabana, her shapes and colours sink us in a sea full of movement and sophistication. Our candidate is the central and main point of the fantasy bringing light to the rest of the costume. They wanted to incorporate different materials such as giant acetate stones, mirrors, carved sculptures, thread tassels…in order to add a modern and contemporary touch to this creation without losing the splendour and showiness of our carnival queens.

The third one Judith Miguelez Diaz, there was nobody on the island who was a such as wonderful young women as her. Her eyes were so round and so black that they would set anyone’s pules racing. She had a slim waist, long legs, a large chest and the most beautiful face. To defend herself from the devil she destroyed her beauty in a fire and covered her body whit volcano sand.
