AN EVENTFUL WEEKEND

Our second weekend of the exchange has passed, and it feels rather odd that we are over the half of our trip.

Since we saw pretty much everything there was to see in Jyväskylä me and Miha decided to visit the four of the students on exchange in Lahti.

We had some problems already with paying our train tickets through my computer, so we went to buy them at the train station on Wednesday. On Saturday, we woke up at 4.30 and got ready to go. We walked to the train station and got on our train to Riihimäki where we would get off and take another train to Lahti. But not even 5 minutes in our trip, the ticket inspector told us our student cards aren’t valid on the VR Group trains, so we had to pay 56 € to get us new tickets (only for one way to Riihimäki). We were angry because the last time we didn’t have any problem and we didn’t know if we would be able to use our tickets for the next train and on our way home.

We got to Lahti without any complications and were excited to finally have someone to hang out with. At the time of our arrival, Neja and Tjaša were on a trip with their Finish schoolmate and Mojca was still asleep, so me, Miha and Anže went out to get some coffee. When we got back to the hotel, Mojca was already cooking lunch, so we didn’t do anything but listen to some music and talk until it was done.

We didn’t have much planned, so we went to play billiard. I must admit I didn’t think I would have so much fun, since I’ve never played it before, but the game is really addicting. Besides that the company was amazing and until the end of the day my stomach and my cheeks ached of laughter.

In the evening the girls came from their trip, and we played jungle speed and uno cards until we were tired enough to get some sleep.

I slept like a baby and woke up full of energy. A few of us went to the store and bought everything we needed for our breakfast. Anže made us “šmorn” and it was amazing. But I were so full I could explode.

Even thought it was snowing outside, we went to see the Salpausselkä ski jumps about 1 km away. We couldn’t get to the top of them, but there were 3 small ones a minute away, so we went up on those. Then we went to look at the Lahti harbour, but the wind got so strong, we decided to go back to our hotel.

We made some lunch and played a few rounds of jungle speed. After that Neja and Tjaša had some things to do so we said our goodbyes. Me and Miha had a few more hours before our train so we went to get some coffee with Anže and Mojca. Since there was enough time to waste, we decided to go to billiard for another hour and it passed so fast.

Our things were still in hotel, so we went to pick them up and said our last goodbyes to Mojca and Anže, then left to get to our train.

But the train didn’t move for another 20 minutes, and I began to worry. It was obvious we would miss our next train in Riihimäki. There were announcements made over the microphone, but they were all in Finnish. Luckily the ticket inspector came to tell us to what train we should go to get to our destination. We were told we had to take a train to Tampere and then change again to get to Jyväskylä. Obviously, there were far too many people on those trains, so we had to stand the whole way to Tampere but luckily got to sit from there on. The ride was 3 hours long so I couldn’t imagine standing the whole time. By the time we got to Jyväskylä I was exhausted but had to walk another half an hour to the dormitory, where I fell asleep like dead.
