Failed northern lights hunting

Yesterday me and Alja decided, that since we are in Rovaniemi we should trie to see the northern lights. We booked a trip with one of the companies that we found. Older lady came to pick us up in front of our hotel in Rovaniemi. We were driving for half an hour until we arrived to our destination. When we arrived the sky was completely black, we couldn’t even see the stars. It’s only possible to see the northern lights if the sky is clear. We went inside of the house and drank a tea. Lady started to telling us stories about Šaman and Sami culture.

Šaman was a man that lived in Lapland all alone hundreds and hundreds years ago. Back then, they had even worse weather than nowadays. That’s why he didn’t know what to do, so he decided to invite four winds to his house. He caught all of the winds into the cap and they all wanted to go in one way. From then, they have 4 seasons like we do. The interesting part of this cap is that only Sami people are allowed to wear it. It also represents the status of the men. If he wears the slip on the right side of his cap he is married, if he wears it on the left side he is single and if he wears it from behind he is engaged. So that’s what I learned for seventy euros and I really hope that I will have a chance one day to see the northern lights as well. It was still an interesting experience but not as interesting as we thought it will be.
