Vaasa, 5.3.2018
Today is the day. The day when we start to begin our work in Vaasa. We met up at the entrance at the school Vamia. There we meet out international coordinator Jura Räsänen. He begins with a presentation of the school. They have a lot of different programs. For example they teach house construction, metal work, house repair, mechanical engineering and of course car mechanics. They house around 3500 students. But they offer also other courses for companys for example they teach mechanics how to work on hybrid and electrical cars. They teach around 3500 people every year.
After the presentation Jura takes us on a tour of the school. He shows us the facilities, the cafeteria, the metal workshop and our car service workshop where we will be working. There we meet our mentor Teemu. He is a great guy.
After the tour of the Vamia school is done Jura decides that we should go see the city. He graciusly guides us through the city of Vaasa. It is really nice city. It’s very quiet and peacefull but beautiful.
Now it is late in the afternoon so we decide that we should go home and rest a bit. So we did that. But before the day ends we with our mentor Marko have a special plan. We meet up at our place and go to the city centre to have some fun. We go to the shops and buy some Finnish cocolate and licorice. After that we go to the outskirts of the city of Vaasa where there is a beach. Yes Vaasa is only 1km away for the sea. So we decide to do something I have never done in my life before. We are going to walk on water. Yes that is right. We are not related to Jesus the sea is just frozen. We came to the beach and there was an island close so we walked to the island over the ice. And the ice was around 50cm thick. So it was safe to walk.
The end of the day was coming up so we went home and got some well deserved sleep.
