When someone mentions the words Spanish cuisine, I always drool. So many different dishes and so many different flavors. The dishes have the influence of Mediterranean flavor and freshness, such as our Slovenian primorska. I tried quite a few different traditional Spanish dishes this month in Spain, and I will present you some of them:
Tapas are small sandwiches with meat, seafood or vegetables. They are best with so-called “Spanish prosciutto” and cheese. In a lot of cases people put on a pickled vegetables too, which give them the more sour taste.
Empanada is a dish made from thin bread dough and brittle yeast dough. It can be stuffed with any salty or sweet food, which I think is better.
Spanish tortilla is one of the most traditional dishes from Spain. It consists baked or boiled potatoes, eggs, olive oil and vegetables. The Spanish tortilla is in the form of a cake with pieces of potatoes and vegetables.
Paella is probably the most representative dish of traditional Spanish cuisine around the world. In many homes it is cooked on weekends and on major holidays. It is a rice dish is made of meat, saffron, legumes and vegetables that we cook in the soup until it dries. It is extremely tasty and interesting to look at, as it is yellowish and even black in various colors.
Churros is a popular and very popular Spanish dessert all over the world. Oil-fried sweet sticks are created to dip in velvet chocolate sauce. I think it’s better to eat it when you are hungry because is really satiating.
The dishes are really good to me so I hope that when I return home I could try to make them with the same delicious taste as I eat it in Spain.
