Que pasaa?
Besides having fun here in Tenerife, I also like exploring the city and it’s buildings. I am religious and in Slovenia go to church every Sunday, it’s a habit that we as a family have since I can remember and here is no different.
Close to where me and my school mates are staying is a Church of San Francisco de Asis. It is religious temple of Catholic worship and parish seat of the city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The church was at first a Franciscan convent and is now the second most important church. The church was completed in 1680 and it is filled with a large number of works of art inside., it is also one of the best examples of Baroque architecture in the Canary Islands.
It is most known for the miraculous image of the Senor de las Tribulaciones (a small picture of Jesus Christ), the picture was carried ina procession during the cholera epidemic in 1893. After that the epidemic miraculously ended. This is the reason, the Senor de las Tribulaciones is a protector of the city and has been given the title of Senor de Santa Cruz.
I find stories like that really amazing and interesting, I like that it has a big meaning for the people here. It is a beautiful church inside and out and after exploring more about it I like it even more.
If you come here, I would suggest you go and visit it. 🙂
On this Sunday (22.5) in the afternoon hours me and Antea witnessed a procession, where they carried a sculpture of mother Mary , it was really beautiful to see it.
