I have been in Madrid for three weeks and I want to compare it with living in Slovenia.
For starters it’s barely any grass where we are staying, to get to nearby park it takes you 20 minutes. In Slovenia you have almost unlimited coverage with grass. Almost everywhere there are buildings and roads, which isn’t surprising because in Madrid alone is living around 3.3 million people, that’s almost 1,5 times bigger than whole Slovenia. Public transport coverage in both countries is pretty good and it’s affordable here and at home, here the big difference is that anywhere you want to go it’s quickly an hour or even more, therefore Madrid invested a lot of money into buses powered by natural gas or CNG.
They also have very developed metro system and tram. There are still a lot of cars in Madrid and they need to have good infrastructure so they don’t always fix roads, rails. In that aspect the gas prices are very high, they were similar until our government didn’t restrict gas prices. The big difference is that every day at around 11pm, they are collecting garbage, which is in my opinion very annoying, because at that time we go to sleep and it’s very difficult to fall asleep if it’s noisy outside, in my home town they pick garbage weekly. The big difference is that Spanish people are very active at night. That’s because they start to work quite late at around 9-10am and work until 5-6pm. Restaurants, bars and night clubs opens pretty late and are open to until 1-3am. Prices are almost identical as in Slovenia, only restaurants are a bit more expensive.
If they would offer me to stay here in Madrid I would probably refuse to live here, because it’s too noisy and a lot of traffic, maybe because I’m used to living in village and not in so much bigger city like Madrid.
