Starting my work day in Finland feels refreshing, since I can wake up later, contrasted with on a school day in Slovenia. I need to be in our workshop at around 9 in the morning, where is always a relaxed and fun atmosphere.
Since the 1970s, Finland has been developing a distinctive design style, heavily influenced by nature.
Known predominantly for their furniture and glass designs, Finnish designers are distinguished by their material sensibility, clear design aesthetic and ecologically sensitive design techniques. These designers, studios and brands represent the key players in shaping Finish design today.
Me and my friend got an assignment on Monday to design something by combining Klaus Haapaniemi and Iittala design, forms and ideology. We each had plenty of time to do our researches, but then again, we came up with ideas really fast. Even though we had the same inspirations our end results were very much different.
The day went by so quickly since we spent our day creating patterns and making half sized models for our project. In the meantime, we also had breaks, lunch and breaks. We had a nice chat with Finnish students. They are really nice, talkative and they are always there if you need any help. After the teachers leave, the students can stay at school as long as they want, if they want to do some extra work, or just feel like it.
After coming home, the two of us, teacher and other two students from logistic program, went on bowling. We were there for one hour and had some healthy competition and lots of bonding. Later we were obviously hungry, so we went on a not so healthy dinner in Burger King. It was still good and also fun, because we spent our last moments with our teacher, since she is leaving tomorrow. Day ended with a beautiful night walk in a city full of lights and already Christmassy atmosphere.
